Týr is back after not having toured North America in four long years!! Prior to 2018, the band had last toured with Children Of Bodom in Spring of 2014, and then with Eluveitie in the fall of 2014. Those being such epic tours with amazing headliners that complimented the style of Tyr's music and vice versa, it was exciting to see Tyr was back with their own Headlining tour! BUT, no new album?!
Though they have played some European festivals in between their four year touring hiatus, the fans have been dying to know when a new album would follow their 2013 Valkyrja album. There has been much speculation as to why Tyr had been out of the spotlight for a while, especially after a photo of Singer and Guitarist Heri Jensen was circulating the internet and stirring up controversy over what most refer to now as the "whaling Incident", when Heri had posted a photo on his Facebook showing his involvement in Whaling in his native country, (and keep in mind, a small Scandinavian Island), known as the Faroe Islands. Everyone had seem to have the same speculation, "Was this why Tyr had been MIA for a while?".
We got to get to the bottom of all the questions that had been brewing in the minds of the fans and we got to ask Heri and Terji from Tyr what was the news with the new album, why has there been such a long wait, and did this incident of 2016 have anything to do with the wait for a tour and new album had been four years? Beyond those important topics we got to talk with the band about topics such as what they think will happen in the next season of Game of Thrones (Where Terji surprised us with a prediction of the last GOT season that blew our minds!). We also got to talk more about what they listen to and what has inspired them and their up coming album. You can catch all the rad questions and content in our interview with them below:
They opened the show with an UNRELEASED song, titled "Gates of Hel" that is from their new album-- see the interview for info on when the new album is expected to drop!
So far we can not confirm, but have high speculation that this album will be Titled: "Hel"
with at least 13 tracks to be included!
Their performance at Brick by Brick San Diego was brought with a robust thumping pulse of persision in their musical talent, and extremely on-point live performance skills that had the fans hanging on every note and entranced with the long awaited live show. The venue brought a intimate setting, to feel that much more apart of the bands performance and connected to the moments on stage.

Despite the boycotting in front of the venue before the show, there was literally no attention granted to the people trying to boycott form the band, or the fans. The people part of the boycott consisted of a few people, and what seemed mostly from the Sea Shepherds (none of people participating in the boycott had appeared to have ever been a fan or metal or Tyr, but more so were there just to boycott the whaling incident). From my own research of the situation and having heard from Heri's perspective, as a Native of Faroe Islands, the boycotters seemed to be mis-informed on the situation.
We spoke with avid southern California concert goer and metal head, Michael Stevenson, about what he witnessed with the protesters at the venue on the night of the Tyr show:
"They drove by in a truck and then gathered across the parking lot about a hour before the doors opened. They held up signs and one of them tried to hand out flyers but security [from the venue] stopped them and told them not harass the fans. They obviously wanted to turn the fans against the band but from want I saw everyone stood by the band no matter what. Everyone is entitled to their opinion regardless if they are right or wrong. Tyr is absolutely awesome!!! The show was an amazing example of the unifying power of metal with all the different bands from different backgrounds playing for an equally diverse crowd. Especially considering what was going on outside."
For those of you who want more in depth understanding of the situation, see the video below by Heri, that explains, in great detail the entire situation.
Let us know what you hope the new album is like and for all you G.O.T. fans, tell us what you think about Terjis prediction for the last season!
